Model trajectories and study domains
In the first year, the programme’s broad curriculum introduces you to several different fields. This will help you discover where your interests lie so that in the second and third year, you have the freedom to pursue a major in economics, sociology or business. These electives determine in which Master’s programmes you can enroll.
Business economics and economic analysis
Immerse yourself in the world of economics. Become an expert in micro and macroeconomic topics and learn the basics of accounting and finance. Market forces, inflation and employment will hold no secrets for you.
Sociological analysis
Get a thorough introduction to sociology, the study of the human behavior in a societal context. Conduct empirical social research and learn more about social structures and sociological theories. Deal with current challenges of the welfare state and consider solutions to meet them.
Corporate and economic languages
A solid knowledge of languages is crucial if you want to have a succesful international career. During the entire programme you refine your written and oral skills of Academic English and one foreign language of your choice (German, French or Spanish).
Integration
Look at social and economic issues from diverse angles. Gain insight into the fascinating complexity of society and develop interdisciplinary problem-solving skills.
Karriere
After your Bachelor’s programme, you can enroll in one of our English postgraduate programmes in Economic Policy or Political Science. Depending on your major and electives, you can also choose the Master in Business Economics. If you are proficient in Dutch, there are a number of Dutch Master’s programmes for you to consider.
The English-language Bachelor of Social-Economic Sciences is being organised for the first time in the academic year 2021-2022. This means you will be among the first ones to graduate this international, multidisciplinary programme.
However, in the past 10 years, over 300 students graduated from the Dutch-language programme in Social-Economic Sciences. Now they are consultants, HR officers, advisors, managers, etc. and work for public institutions, banks, consultancy firms, and so on.
94.7% of our graduates have found a job within 6 months of finishing their studies. Several alumni now live and work abroad in Germany, Spain, Canada, Australia, Singapore, etc.

Zulassung
In order to enrol in an academic Bachelor’s programme, you need to have (at least) a secondary education degree which entitles you to enrol in a comparable programme in a university of the country in which the degree was conferred. Students who’s degree was already recognised by NARIC as being equivalent to a Flemish diploma that gives direct access to the programme already comply with the diploma requirements.
Since the programme is taught in English, applicants with a prior degree issued outside Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English.
- Applicants can do so by submitting a language certificate showing their TOEFL, IELTS or ITACE results (the level required can be checked on the website).
- Applicants who have previously obtained a diploma in an English taught programme in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and/or the United States of America are exempt from providing an additional language test certificate.
- Applicants with a diploma of a European School or an International Baccalaureate and English as Language 1 or Level A, should contact the Registrar’s Office to get their documents checked for an equivalence of the required proficiency in English.
Please note that the Board of Admission may still ask for additional proof of proficiency in English.
